What is the best phone insurance?

That all depends on what you want out of a phone insurance policy, so here are a few questions to ask yourself before you buy a policy:

  • Would I like to protect my phone against loss and theft as well as accidental damage?
  • How much am I willing to pay for the premium and excess?
  • Is it important to me that the policy has a good Defaqto score?
  • Does the cover start instantly?
  • What do other people think of this company?
  • Would I like my policy to auto-renew so I’m always protected?

Mobile phone insurance is usually priced depending on the value of your device. If you’re looking to insure the very latest smartphone on the market, then it’s likely you’re going to need to pay a little more than insuring a handset released a few years ago.

To reduce the overall cost of the premium, depending on the insurer, you could choose to remove certain aspects of the cover – for example Loss or Theft. Here at CoverMe4 we have provided 3 different cover levels to suit individual needs and budgets.

When will my cover start?

Unlike some insurers, we don’t enforce a cooling-off period, so your phone will be protected from the moment you sign up.

How long does the cover last and what is the cancellation policy?

Currently, we only provide monthly policies, payable by Direct Debit. Once you have signed up, your cover will continue until you decide to cancel the policy.

You have the option to cancel your insurance within 14 days of taking out the cover at no cost. If your bank account has been debited with your first month’s premium, you will be reimbursed as long as you have not made a claim.

What is an excess and do I have to pay it?

Your excess is a payment you would make as your financial contribution to the successful claim that you have made.

Our excess levels vary between £25 and £100. Your excess amount is shown when you get a quote for your device and it’s also confirmed in your Certificate of Insurance once you purchase your policy.

How do I make a claim and what do I need to do it?

Our claims team are available 8:00 – 20:00 Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 17:30 Saturday.

Depending on the type of claim you make, you will need to submit several pieces of information. For all claims, you will need to provide a proof of purchase for your phone, this must evidence where you brought the phone, the make, model and IMEI number of your mobile phone and that it was under 36 months old when you purchased your policy.  

If you don’t have a receipt for your device, you will need to provide evidence of the original order and/or contract which your phone was supplied.

For loss and theft claims, you might also need to supply us with a loss or theft report number and a proof of usage from your network provider.

Who are Citymain?

Citymain Administrators Ltd manage our insurance schemes on behalf of the Underwriter. This includes taking payments from you and processing any claims or changes you make to your policy.

Both CoverMe4 and Citymain are part of SPB UK & Ireland Limited, which means you have a full team behind you, from when you purchase your policy, to when you need to make a claim and have your device repaired or replaced. This means there are no awkward backwards and forwards between third parties, so we can handle your policy more efficiently and get you back to normal as quickly as possible.

What should I do if I upgrade my device?

If you are thinking of changing your phone and still want to have it insured with us, you will need to let us know as soon as possible so we can update your policy. If you don’t let us know about your new device it won’t be covered if you try to make a claim. Please note that if you have upgraded to a more expensive mobile, you might need to pay a higher premium/excess.
